LETTER FROM OUR NATIONAL PRESIDENT

Dear Friends,

Societas Docta, Incorporated National President, a Distinguished Professor at Florida A&M University comes to this position with more than 48 years for experience to lead the organization of African American women with earned Doctoral Degrees in their chosen professional field.

​

Dr. Ball Thomas ascended to Societas Docta, Inc. highest office in 2023 and took helm of this prestigious organization which is celebrating 37 years since its founding in Atlanta, Georgia. As National President & CEO, Dr. Ball Thomas guides the policy, develops programs and leads a Board of Directors that oversees the organization chapters.

As a Full professor housed in the College of Education at FAMU Tallahassee, Florida campus. She has demonstrated ability to support and implement successful evidence-informed programs and build successful community partnerships, as well as a demonstrated ability to secure and manage externally funded research projects as the Principal Investigator. She also possesses the ability to locate, read, understand, and apply scholarly evidence to community programs and project development, and to produce written program materials, including grant summaries, management plans, manuals, and technical reports. Lastly, she is able to implement program and project summaries and evaluation processes to demonstrate progress.

Dr. Patty Ball Thomas is a strong, ethical pillar in her community. She daily focuses on uplifting all people, regardless of age, ability, economic status, religious affiliation, and the like.   Through her engaging manner and leadership skills, Dr. Ball Thomas has brought individuals and organizations together to better the lives of children, neighborhoods, the state, and the region.   Constantly, she seeks new ways to serve and assist in improving the quality of life and lived experiences for those around her, as well as those whom she may never meet.

A testament of her leadership is her record of elected positions as President for organizations such as Zonta International, Tallahassee Chapter, the American Association of University Women, Tallahassee Chapter, and President and Charter Member of the National Hook Up for Black Women. When Dr. Patty Ball Thomas served in these roles, she was an outspoken advocate for all things right and noble that support uplift and enhances experiences for all humankind.   Dr. Ball Thomas exhibits unwavering servant leadership. Her commitment to the Girl Scouts of the Big Bend as Vice President, Life Membership in Girl Scouts USA, diligence in giving back to her community as the Vice Chairman for the Commission on the Leon County Status of Women and Girls is a testament to her belief in supporting community causes. Also, serving as a Commissioner on the Florida Commission on Human Relations, appointed by Governor Chris, is a mirrored image of the commitment that we need from our local leaders. Dr. Patty Ball Thomas has also served countless volunteer hours in her communities.  

Her attributes are many. Kindness, respect, humor, intellect, strategic thinking, and ability to implement, engage, and convene are all apparent and active when one sees Dr. Patty Ball Thomas at work for the good of the cause. Noting her excellence in leadership, Dr. Ball Thomas is a recipient of the Leadership Tallahassee Award. She is committed to education and understanding the same as a force to increase opportunities and growth for all; she was also a candidate for the Leon County School Board. She served as Executive Director for the Florida Association for Community Action. Dr. Patty Ball Thomas endlessly commits to her community in leadership and supporting roles.
